iZotope Neutron Mixing Console – What do the experts think?

EXPERTS_Neutron_NFollowing the release of their free Neutrino effects plug-in a couple of weeks ago, which gave us a glimpse into iZotope´s new mixing technology, the Boston-based audio processing specialists have released NEUTRON.

Available now, this mixing plug-in combines five great-sounding new processors with the latest in intelligent metering and analysis. Like having a virtual assistant, Neutron can listen to your audio, identify instruments, and offer tailored starting points for creating powerful mixes with focus and clarity while leaving all the creative control to you.

Although only having been in our midst for a short while, Neutron has gained great exposure for simply being itself, and allowing mixers and producers to achieve new levels of clarity and unprecedented focus to their sound. This is what the experts have to say…

“Neutron is incredibly intelligent and quick to use, it really enhances my skill set and will do the same to anyone who uses it, regardless of their level of experience”
Rik Simpson (Coldplay, Jay Z, PJ Harvey)

“Neutron is the truth.” Focus (Dr. Dre, Beyoncé, Busta Rhymes)

devine1“I am loving it, this is a brilliant idea for a plug-in. The analyze feature is really something, I have been using it on independent instrument tracks, and it really helps shape the spectrum of the mix quickly, brilliant!” Richard Devine

“One of the most talked-about new products at AES.”

“It’s always refreshing to use tools that have a new approach, and I’ve really enjoyed how Neutron gives me a different point of view when mixing. Popping the track assistant on will often give my ears a fresh perspective, but the best thing is how intuitive and quick it is to either gently modify or completely transform a treatment from any starting point.” Damian Taylor (Bjork, The Killers, DJ Shadow)

“It’s pretty amazing. The track assistant calculates a preset based on the audio passing through (EQ, compression, transient shaper, and exciter). More times than not it gets you within striking distance of a final sound. It also allows you to EQ two tracks at the same time while showing you a histogram of common frequencies between them. Throw in dynamic EQs, multi-band compression, and a ridiculous side-chaining matrix and you can do some amazing things. It’s a winner.”
Chris Shaw (Weezer, Wilco, Bob Dylan, Ween, Jeff Buckley, Cheap Trick)
