Throughout 2015 the team at Computer Music have had hundreds of plugins, DAWs, sample libraries, interfaces and everything in between put in their laps for review, and who knows better than the makers of the world’s best selling music software magazine.
The crack team of writers/reviewers/audio aficionados were given the challenging task of picking their favourites and singling out the software that impressed them the most this year.
We were quietly confident when we heard that this was being complied as our stellar list of brands have produced some groundbreaking, unique and inspiring software over the last 12 months, our confidence was proven well founded with Toontrack, iZotope and Spectrasonics all receiving a shout out from the CM staff.
Computer Music Editor Lee du-Caine named the “Outstanding sounds from Andy Sneap” in Toontrack’s Metal Machinery SDX as one of his 2015 highlights. Lee put Metal Machinery SDX through its paces back in June, giving it a 10/10, Lee Said “With legendary metal producer Andy Sneap manning the desk, it should come as no surprise that it sounds absolutely incredible. Utterly essential for metal heads”
“Omnisphere 2 is an instrument that you couldn’t exhaust the potential of in a lifetime of music making. It’s powerful, soulful and worth every penny” CM reviews section editor and Dr Beat Columnist Ronan Macdonald made Omnisphere 2 his Expert’s Choice of 2015. Omnisphere 2 also received top honours from CM when it was reviewed in July, they said “an absolute triumph of virtual instrument design.” – Computer Music
The man behind the popular ‘Geek Techniques’ series had his say on this year’s offerings, Owen Palmer gives his experts choice accolade to iZotope’s audio repair plugin, RX 5 “There’s nothing that comes remotely close to the supreme power of iZotope’s RX 5 Advanced. It’s advertised as an audio editor and restoration suite – a VERY modest view of what it’s truly capable of. I often use it to gain deep insights into how sounds work.”
Multi-instrumentalist, remixer, producer and Computer Music scribe Jon Musgrave has reviewed hundreds of products over the years and we are delighted that he chose to give the nod to iZotope Iris 2, saying “For textures, pads, and soundscapes with an individual touch, this is a must-have instrument.”
Alex Blanco has worked with, produced, and remixed the likes of Seb Fontaine, Simon Dale, Just Jack and Simply Red to name but a few, as well as test driving software for Computer Music for more than a decade! Its fair to say this man knows the business, we were thrilled when he said “iZotope really upped the anti with the IRC IV mode in Ozone 7, and its modules feature in most of my projects” and chose iZotope Ozone 7 as a 2015 highlight and informs that masses that “Ozone isn’t only for mastering, it has sound design and mixing clout”
